Where are we?

I know...if you really cared you would just google Turkey, but I decided to make it easy on you. You don't have to work for this little geography lesson. I know. I'm a giver.

A map of Turkey. We live in Ankara, the capital of Turkey. I have no idea why this map has some places marked in red. Not a clue. As you can see from the map the biblical city of Ephesus is in western Turkey, and the ancient city of Troy is found here as well. Mt. Ararat, where Noah's boat landed, is located in eastern Turkey. There are quite a few ancient cities and ruins all over the country. Most of Turkey is located in the continent of Asia. Find Istanbul on the map and know that half of that city is in Asia and the other half is in Europe. The city is divided by the Bosphorus Strait which connects the Sea of Marmara to the Black Sea. The small portion of Turkey from Istanbul to Edirne is located in Europe. If you ever have the chance to visit Turkey I would highly recommend it.

Where we live. Not exactly ancient or in ruins thank goodness. We live in this lovely pink, yellow, and gray building. If you are really interested you can count down three gray balconies from the top of the short side of the building and see where I spend many sunny summer days!

So that's it for this post. Just wanted to give you a glimpse of here.

I love your colorful building! I've always wanted a balcony. I had a corner apartment in the last building I lived in which would have been nice except there weren't any windows at the ends of the building. A 2 bedroom apartment and there were only 3 windows in the whole place. Thankfully at least the dining room/living room window was huge. Still no balcony though.

Looks delightful!! Mayhaps the red means 'historical' places? I'd think that was all of Turkey though:)

Natalie: It has been a while since I wandered over to your blog. Oh, you are a funny funny girl. I love the stuff you write about - every day stuff that in "normal" Turkey life isn't that funny unless you've actually lived there! Great to know your family is doing well.

Have you ever been to the Valley of the Fairy Chimneys? It is one of the places marked in red. Sounds intriguing... what in the heck is a Fairy Chimney?

1smileygirl - thanks! i love our building, but brian thinks it's the ugliest building on the block. oh well...at least he gets to live in it so he doesn't have to look at it! and we once lived in a 4 bedroom house with 7 windows total. i am loving the windows here!

mike - i think you are right, but i would have added quite a few more historical places though...but, then again they didn't ask me! they are missing out for sure!

witty - glad you liked it!

mandy - glad to see you! as you well know life in turkey isn't all fun and games so we try to make it fun when we can. it's called survival!

becky - coming up...a blog post just for you!

Are you ever concerned with terrorism? I looked at the map, and turkey is awfully close to Iraq. But, I'm paranoid, and I worry about things like that. It looks like a neat place to live, or at least visit.

nikki - nope, never worried. i am a laid back passive type for the most part which helps. and it looks close, but it's doesn't feel close. it is 783 miles from us to baghdad which is beyond the border, but gives you an idea.

Yes, he is getting together a trip, but not sure what area he plans on going to. I'm hoping we get to see you and Brian though. I'm sure he will know more in the next month or so. He's wanting to come the first of July.
