10

That's how many more days we have here. It's also how many suitcases are packed. We only get 11, and at this point we have way more than 11 suitcases worth of stuff. It looks as though we will be paying for some extra luggage. I can't decide if I should pay the extra luggage fee or just buy new stuff. I hate to have to shop for stuff again. I am not a big fan of shopping in general so that is one argument for bringing what we have here. I also don't like the thought of bringing more luggage. And since I am indecisive I will probably wait a few more days before I do anything one way or another.

Yesterday we hosted a give-away/garage sale in our apartment. It is an ongoing thing so anyone who didn't get to come yesterday please come by anytime. We still have a lot left! Oh, you might want to call first to make sure we are home. Of course it helps if you live in Ankara. All you people who reside in other parts of the world are welcome to drop by as well. Just don't expect much in the way of hospitality from me!

I say spring for some extra luggage, but as painful as it may be, limit yourself to several suitcases less than you'd need to take everything back, and donate anything that won't fit and won't sell.

You'll probably find that when you get back here, you won't be reacquiring all of the stuff you had to jettison, and you'll be happier for it.

Maybe we should just have a "Coming to America" shower for you, to replace what you left behind or sold. We could do it all online...why don't you make a wishlist on amazon or something and see what happens?

wow pretty soon we'll be naighbors! well, our states will be neighbors anyway. didn't you say it was colorado? or is it texas?

I can't find my blog said...

Oh sweetie! Hang in there-you'll figure it out. Sending prayers and peace! for you in the upcoming days. Can't wait to hear all about it-but take your time. You'll have plenty of time to catch up when you get back to the states. ENJOY your last few days with the friends you've made there.

Wow, 10 more days and you'll be back in the good old US of A. Very cool.

What if you just boxed up the extra crap and shipped it home? Is there a Postal Annex or a UPS Store close by? Wow, 10 more days and you'll be back in the good old US of A. Very cool.

I have some good friends who had the same problem when moving to Australia. I don't envy you the packing decisions.

I'm like you in that I hate to shop so I would be trying to figure out how much it would cost to replace the extra stuff vs the cost of buying extra luggage space. That said, when we last moved we didn't have room on the truck for everything. It was crammed absolutely full. So we ended up giving away some stuff at the last minute. The only thing we replaced (that I know of) is our gas grill. I don't even know what else is missing; that's how much I miss it! So I'd say literaldan's right...one way or another, leave it!

And do enjoy you last precious days there!

literaldan - i agree. i have a friend coming over on monday to help me repack and sort through what i think we want/need. i'm sure i will be able to narrow it down with help.

tamara - that sounds so funny to me. i have seen people who have wish lists, and i've never thought anything about them. i have actually almost purchased something for someone once. i don't know if i could do one though.

memarie lane - i know! we will be in texas. we drive to california about once a year though so we will probably pass through your state in the summer!

headless mom - you are so sweet! i appreciate the prayers immensely. i am stressed, but it isn't terrible. i know that once i leave my house on the 24th there is absolutely nothing else i can do. my stress will disappear fairly quickly then.

heyjoe - we have sent some stuff already. i just wish we had shipped more. we have a plan for a few extra boxes. hopefully it will only be a few. and you cracked me up with your double stuff. so funny!

~m - thanks! only a few more days and i will be done. america will be busy, but i don't think i will be stressed about it!

citizen of the world - i know. it should be fine though. i know i won't miss what i don't take. it is just the narrowing it down part that i hate!

lynn - smile.

mamadallama - i know. part of me just wants to leave it and then i might not even miss it so i won't have to replace it. that would totally work for me! we'll see what happens!

t - yes. i just have barely been at the computer. i owe you an email!

I wonder if we are actually in the same country if we will see each other more often. Hmmmm. A definite thought to ponder! Hope you all have a safe trip and let me know what your mailing address will be so I can send a pic of the kids at Christmas.

Love,
CG

#2 - my husband calls me a consumer not a shopper. i need black pants...i go out and buy a pair of black pants. i don't want it to take all day, and i won't shop around. the first pair i like that i am willing to pay the price i buy. i think i am just lazy!

la cousin - i think we should try to see each other more often. i want to bring brian and the kids up to arkansas to see mawmaw's old house and grave. not sure when it would happen, but we will call you guys for sure!
